ARTIST BIO

Theresa Maxwell is a Calgary, Alberta-based artist. Born in 1976, she studied fine art at the University of Toronto and in Moscow, Russia, before pursuing degrees in Russian and East European Studies and in law. In 2005 she returned full-time to painting. As an emerging artist, Theresa exhibited paintings in galleries in Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal. Her experience included being a part of an artist collective in Toronto's Distillery District and organizing a bi-annual artists' studio tour in the city's vibrant Beach neighbourhood. Theresa's move to Alberta in 2011 took her art in an exciting new direction. Inspired by the beauty of the west, she committed herself to landscape and figurative painting, focussing on commission work from local networks and social media.
